Living And Looking Good: Suggestions For An Ideal Fitness Lifestyle
Achieving personal fitness should be a top goal for everyone. Many people are overwhelmed when they decide to begin a fitness program because they have no experience trying to increase their fitness level. For some people it’s easier to just start doing workouts in their own home while others like to head to the outdoors or gyms. The tips below will help you build and continue a fitness program that will work for you.
If you are looking to speed up your running time, be sure to add resistance training to your training routine. It has been found that resistance training actually helps speed up the 5K running times of seasoned runners, often by as much as thirty seconds. Start by adding eight-weeks of resistance training, then go from there.
Prevent any sort of back injury by squeezing your butt together whenever you lift weights over your head. Exercises such as standing shoulder presses can really strain your back if you do not have correct posture. Squeezing your butt forces you to straighten your back and allows you to perform the exercise correctly.
Try to keep your workouts limited. You should keep them to under an hour, if possible. After an hour, your body starts to produce a stress hormone that can actually start to eat away at your muscle and will block testosterone, which leads to less muscle development and does not produce a very good workout.
When trying to gain muscles in your arms by lifting weights, go light weights fast. It has been proven that lifting light weights at a fast pace is just as effective as lifting heavy weights at a slower pace. You can try doing this method by using a bench press and lifting weights that are 40 to 60 percent of what you can handle. Push the weights up as fast as you can. There are also some home workout products such as Les Mills Pump based on BodyPump that a lot of gyms are doing now. If you would like to see what “Pump” is about just click here to see a video.
Going to a commercial rock climbing wall can be a good way to get out of the house and have fun while still improving physical fitness. The climbing of the rock wall will work out the entire body and also stimulate the mind as one looks for a path to climb.
One thing to remember when working out is to exercise in order. The proper order that should be followed is to use dumbbells, barbells and then machines if working out at a gym. This is because the smaller muscles will be worked out by the dumbbells and lastly, the machines can be done as you grow tired. If working out at home with a program such as P90X just follow along with what the program has you do and follow the diet and you will get good results. Long, lean muscles become less flexible as you age and exercise physiologists recommend doing longer stretches to compensate. While stretching is recommended for everyone before exercising, experts suggest it is even more important for those over 40. A good tip is to try to hold your stretches for 20-30 seconds when under 40 years old. If you are beyond 40, try to hold those stretches for 45-60 seconds. Longer stretches will keep your muscles smooth and pliable.
